How has the FDR process changed since the changes in the FLA and FDR Regs?
The Family Law Act and the FDR Practitioner Regulations have both had major overhauls — changes to the best interests of the child framework in 2024, and a complete replacement of the FDR Practitioner Regulations in 2025. If you're still working the way you always have, your practice may already be out of step.
In this session, Joanne Law, Director of Mediation Institute, walks through what's actually changed for FDR practitioners on the ground, including:
Updated suitability assessment under the new Regulations, including factors that weren't there before
How the revised best interests framework changes the conversations we have with parents
Family violence: what's new, what's clarified, and what's been there all along
Capacity to meet children's needs, and the individual factors now sitting alongside it
Practical implications for intake, screening and your process
We'll also look at the updated assessment tools and the shift in training emphasis flowing from these changes.
Who it's for: Supervisors, practice managers, and those working in FDR services.
