2026 Lunch & Learn 6 - Recognising and Responding to Elder Abuse in Central Australia with CAWLS

Virtual Event

Date & Time

Aug 13, 2026 12:30 PMin Australia/Melbourne

Description

Welcome to another EAAA Lunch & Learn.

In this session, we will be hearing from Central Australian Women's Legal Service (CAWLS).   Join CAWLS Acting CEO Alice de Brenni, Senior Criminal Lawyer Tania Collins, and Community Justice Partnerships Team Lead Dr Kelly Lee Hickey for an insightful discussion on elder abuse in Central Australia and the Barkly Region.

Drawing on frontline legal practice, community engagement and prevention work, our presenters will explore the realities of elder abuse across the region through case studies, emerging trends and issues identified by remote communities and health clinics.

The webinar will examine the unique challenges facing older people in Central Australia and discuss how community legal centres can play a critical role in preventing and responding to elder abuse.  The session will also highlight how CAWLS supports older people experiencing abuse, our education and awareness work across Central Australia and the Barkly, and community-led approaches to addressing the underlying drivers of elder abuse, including housing and economic justice.

Whether you work in the legal, health, community or aged care sectors, this webinar will provide practical insights into recognising elder abuse and understanding the pathways to support.
