You can request a Leave of Absence for up to 12 months, or if longer, a Non-Practicing certificate can be requested.

What happens when you make your application?

  • We will review your application and contact you if we need more information.
  • Your name will be removed from the National Register of Mediators during your leave of absence or if you are issued a Non-Practicing Certificate. 
  • The AMDRAS Board will be notified of your status of being on a Leave of Absence or Non-Practicing Certificate. 
  • Reinstatement conditions will depend on your individual circumstances: 
    • Leave of absence your renewal date is extended by the number of months leave of absence you take (maximum 12 months) and you renew as usual when your new renewal date comes due. 
    • Non-Practicing Certificates - for up to two-year periods and able to be extended if needed. Specific requirements regarding CPD apply for reinstatement.   

The Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Accreditation Standards (AMDRAS) will now apply to these applications. www.amdras.au

Who should use this form?

Accredited Mediators (NMAS or AMDRAS) who are current or who's renewal was due within the previous 2 months.

Longer than that, your accreditation will automatically lapse and you will need to apply for reinstatement. Requirements To Re-instate Lapsed Accreditation as an Accredited Mediator

If you are also a FDR Practitioner your Registration as a FDRP may be conditional on having and maintaining national Accreditation as a mediator and/or an approved complaint handling service. You are not covered by complaint handling while on a Leave of Absence or holding a non-practicing certificate. Mediation Institute will inform the AG's department of any Accredited Mediators who are also FDR practitioners who are granted a Leave of Absence or Non-Practicing Certificate.


By submitting this application for Leave of Absence or Non-Practicing Certificate you acknowledge that Mediation Institute must provide relevant information to the AMDRAS board and facilitate the removal of your name from the National Register of Mediators for the duration of your requested period.


Our team will review your application and contact you if they require any additional information. Once your application is complete a confirmation will be provided and your current membership subscription will be adjusted.
