Some conflicted people are interested in gaining insight into their situation, others are too close to the heat of their argument. 'Conflict Management for One' is a course offered by the Mediation Institute. The course allows a mediator to offer a range of ideas and information to one client in order to help them reassess their conflict. CM-1 can be done with all parties to a dispute, either before a process such as mediation begins or between or after sessions.

I innovated 'CM-1', building on Alan Tidwell's 'Problem Solving for One' which Dr Tidwell created at Maquarie University in the mid 1990's. I was an FDRP and small business mediator from 1996 until I retired in 2021. This course is my legacy, shaped after thousands of hours of mediation and close work with conflicted and distressed Australians.
