At Mediation Institute, we know that building your career as a mediator takes more than training. That’s why we actively support our members with tools, networks, and opportunities to help you find meaningful work and grow as a professional.

1. Find a Mediator Referrals

  • Find a Mediator – Public directory of Mediation Institute Members. You can provide detail for your profile to improve search outcomes through your www.mimembers.au profile. How Mi receives and refers enquiries for mediation services.
  • Eligibility – You must be a Mi Practitioner or AMDRAS Member to have a public profile on our Find a Mediator Pages
  • Join Mediation Institute - You can join as a Practitioner Member even if your main membership is with another provider. Find out more about how to Join Mi

2. ICDRS

  • ICDRS Panel – Opportunities to join the Interact Community Dispute Resolution Service (ICDRS) pro-bono and fee-for-service panels.
  • Interact Support - ICDRS is a project of Interact Support a social enterprise style not-for-profit dedicated to reducing abuse and violence through the provision of dispute resolution services and education.

For mediators starting out, wanting to share experience or just looking to volunteer for a few mediations to make up their hours.

3. Work Placement & Supervision

  • 50-Hour FDR Work Placement – Pathway through to Interact Support and FRC's such as Uniting Care in place for Mediation Institute students. We're sorry we don't have capacity to directly support students of other training providers.
  • Your first 5 Mediations - Program in place via ICDRS to provide co-mediation and community support to new AMDRAS Accredited Mediators. There is a volunteer (pro-bono) and honorarium payment program available. 
  • Supervisor Panel – Access to experienced FDRPs who can support interns and new mediators.  Expressions of Interest from experienced mediators are welcomed. 
  • Mentoring Opportunities – Pairing with experienced practitioners for career development.
  • Supervision Trainees Program - opportunity to participate in a free individual or group supervision session with a trainee on our Supervision Training Program which they complete as part of their assessment.

Mediation Institute’s Supervision & Mentoring program connects experienced mediators ready to supervise with practitioners seeking supervision, using one combined Expression of Interest form.

4. Practice Opportunities

  • Role-Play Participation – Joining training role plays as a mediator or client.
  • Co-Mediation with a Supervisor – Partnering with experienced mediators in real cases to build your confidence. See the supervision initiatives above.
  • Community Projects – Opportunities to mediate in community-based initiatives (trees, fences, neighbourhood disputes) with ICDRS. You must be AMDRAS Accredited but no experience in required to get started. See ICDRS information above.

5. Employment & Private Practice Support

  • Job Listings and Posts – Where Mi shares roles from partner organisations and information about the sector. Mediator Employers
  • Private Practice Support – Business setup guidance, compliance tools, discounted insurance partnership with AON and more. See the Member Benefits Page for current initiatives.
  • Mediation Marketing Support – Access the Cultivation Academy for free until the end of 2025 and contact us about inclusion on referral websites e.g. www.conflictmanagement.au for programs such as CM-1.

6. Networking & Visibility

  • Mi Mediators Network – Build professional visibility within the community. Search for and connect with other members near and far within Mi Members or our Google Map
